The early M77 with a tang safety are a push feed action with a large claw extractor that takes a solid hold on the cartridge's rim for positive extraction and a plunger type ejector. A lightweight alloy trigger guard protects the trigger and a hinged floorplate allows shooter to unload the rifle safely without cycling cartridges through the chamber.
