I have for sale a Ruger deerstalker 44 magnum Carbine. This is a first year 1961 production wearing the Deer stalker name on the left side of the reciever. There were only 3000 of these ever manufactured due to a name infringement lawsuit brought by Ithica. This rifle has been sitting in a closet for over 30 years without being fired. I took it out and fired one box of ammo through it and it functioned well. I'm no expert at appraising guns so I took it to two different local gun shops and both of them rated it at 80% condition. It has never been refinished in any way. It does have some visible marks in the wood but none are really deep. Theres no rust anywhere and the bluing is good. There are some fine scratches in the metal finish but again nothing deep. The worst part of the finish is the metal but plate on the stock. It appears to be a different factory finish than the barrel and receiver. It doesn't appear to be blued but rather painted black. There are areas where the finish on the but plate is worn off. There are 2 screws that attach the but plate. It could be easly removed and replaced or refinished. I considered doing so but decided to leave as is. This rifle comes with a Japanese made 4X scope that has been professionaly installed by a gun smith. The scope is probably 40 + years old but is functional. If this rifle was in very good condition my asking price would be $1000.00 or more. I believe I have priced it fairly for its condition.
