Offered for your consideration is a scarce and desirable Ruger Deerstalker .44 Carbine with a 3-digit serial number (445) indicating first year of production (1961). Overall condition is VG+, described as follows:
- The barrel and receiver retain 90%+ of the original blued finish with normal wear at the sharp edges and muzzle.
- The bore is mint, bright and shiny with strong lands and grooves.
- The receiver has an added Lyman aperture sight, showing some surface freckles in places. Also included are what I believe is the original folding rear sight, along with the factory front sight with white insert.
- The original hardwood stock is also in VG+ condition, showing only minor surface scratches and handling marks, but no chips, cracks, or other damage. The dark spot you see on the left side of the stock behind the pistol grip is original to the wood.
- The steel buttplate shows finish wear, scratches, and dings from normal use.
- The carbine has been test fired with no issues, using standard .44 magnum ammunition. It feeds and functions as intended.
The short-lived Ruger Deerstalker is very desirable in itself, but a first year of production carbine with a sub-500 serial number is a true collector's item and will enhance any vintage firearm collection. Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of history!!
