This is a Model 78 from Sako that was manufactured between the years 1979 and 1986 with serial number "713279". In 1979 the serial number started at "711283". This example is a very nice early model bolt action with a 22" barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked "MADE IN FINLAND". The top of the shank is marked "SAKO .22 HORNET". The left side of the receiver is marked "M78 HORNET 713279" next to two factory markings. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked "279". The right side of the receiver in front of the bolt is marked by the importer "SIMPSON LTD GALESBURG IL.". The scope is the model "Classic 3x9x32" made in Japan, it's missing a turret cap. The stock is one-piece checkered wood with a pistol grips, fluted Monte Carlo comb, cheek piece, sling stud front and rear, and an added ventilated rubber recoil pad marked "KASSNAR". .22 Hornet
