RUSSIAN CAPTURE German WORLD WAR II J.P. SAUER & SOHN “147/1939” K98 C&R WWII THIRD REICH Rifle w/Russian “X” Capture Mark
Description: RUSSIAN CAPTURE German WORLD WAR II J.P. SAUER & SOHN “147/1939” K98 C&R WWII THIRD REICH Rifle w/Russian “X” Capture Mark Here we present a C&R “X” Marked Russian Captured German Third Reich J. P. Sauer & Son “147/1939” Code K98 Mauser Rifle manufactured in 1939. In 1898 the German Army purchased a Mauser design, the Model 98, which incorporated improvements introduced in earlier models. The weapon was originally chambered for the Patrone 88 and officially entered German service as the Gew. 98 on April 5, 1898. This remains by far the most successful of the Mauser designs, helped by the onset of two world wars that demanded vast numbers of rifles. It was in late 1941 that the Sauer production code changed from “147” to a script “ce”. Cupped buttplates were introduced to help prevent the de-lamination of rifle buttstocks. Sauer began to use “bys” and “dfb” barrels and magazine followers which have a waffenamt “214” proof. Waffenamt inspection numbers continued to be used on most parts. All metal parts continued to be milled and numbered to match the rifle. The known serial number range is from 1005 to 613v for an estimated production run of 225,000 rifles. For the first time Sauer produced rifles for the Luftwaffe with these rifles having a Luftamt on the barrel. Manufactured at the start of World War II, this Mauser K98 bears the "147/1939" code on the receiver ring, along with numerous Third Reich inspection marks, including the "eagle/swastika/359" and an "eagle/37" proofed receiver. The overall condition is very good. This example has been arsenal refinished. The action is robust. Numbers match on the receiver, breech and stock. The stock is in good condition and is re-varnished. This example is import marked. Bright rifled bore with sharp rifling. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 23-3/4 inches. Caliber: 7.92mm Mauser Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
