Savage 99 Combination Rifle and 410 Shotgun
Description: *** SOLD *** SOLD *** You have probably seen a few Savage combination guns, but this one is unique as I'll explain shortly. This 1923 (serial # 255145) Savage 99G Deluxe take-down, pistol grip, checkered 300 Savage, with a 410 bore barrel, is stamped "Savage 1899 Model", which Savage started doing about 1920 until the mid 1920s, even though the "18" was dropped from the description in their catalogs about 1921. This caused a lot of confusion among collectors, thinking this was a 1899 instead of a Model 99. It has a 24" rifle barrel and a 22" 410 shotgun barrel with a 2 1/2" chamber, which is intended for single shot use only. What is unique about this Savage 99 is that the serial number stamped on the receiver and forearm is 255145, but the stock and buttplate are stamped with serial number 255146. I would think most likely a factory "goof" that made it past inspection or after all the production work, Savage decided, "no big deal" and let it go out. I was thinking of one scenario on how this could have happened in the first place. Two Savage employees working beside each other, talking about past New York Yankee's games and how great of a player Babe Ruth was. Not paying close attention to their work could have lead to this unique gun. Over all this Savage rifle & shotgun combo is in good condition and both barrels having a shiny bore, with thinned bluing on the left muzzle area of the 410 barrel. I do not have a case, so pricing is under what you usually find for these sets. $50 S&H to most of the lower 48. Eight far west states at $60 S&H. Post office money orders for payment. No warranty stated or implied by the seller. Consignment gun-no return. 6 month lay-a-way is available!
