Made in 1901, this rifle is in outstanding condition. It has 99%+ original bluing, smooth metal with no damage, the walnut stock and foreend has an attractive grain with only a few minor dents. It is mechanically perfect, and the bore is clean with sharp rifling. Barrel is 26",
a crescent steel butt plate, buckhorn rear sight with blade front sight, and .cartridge counter.
Because it was made in 1901 rather than prior to 1898, it does not qualify as an antique firearm, but the condition of this 121-year-old rifle would be NRA excellent.
GOOD NEWS: Factory ammo for the .303 Savage was discontinued years ago. Prvi Partizan makes new unprimed brass. The .303 Savage bore is .308, and because the Savage 99 does not have a tubular magazine, any standard .308 bullet can be used.
