Description:
Serial #77.751, .303 Savage, 26" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a small amount of freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is a handsome rifle that has the 2nd type bolt with rectangular cocking indicator, and pre-1909 round cartridge counter viewing port. The metal retains about 60-65% of the original blue finish, with the balance faded to a dull gray patina that has spots of plum-brown freckling along the barrel, as well as some cleaned areas along the sides and bottom of the receiver. The lever has some muted original color case-hardening still remaining. The rifle is outfitted with a Lyman Hunting front sight, original rear barrel sight, and a flip-up tang peep sight. The forend wood is a well-crafted and finished later replacement that has almost no handling marks or blemishes in the otherwise excellent varnish finish (the wood is unnumbered at the rear face). The original buttstock has a matching number under the original matching numbered buttplate, with the wood exhibiting numerous small handling marks and small surface blemishes scattered throughout the lightly worn varnish. The action locks up tightly, and functions flawlessly. This is a very nice early takedown Model 99 Savage, and rates very good condition overall. FFL or C&R;
