HIGH CONDITION SAVAGE 1899H CARBINE WITH FANCY WALNUT STOCK, #300XXX, WITH CODY MUSEUM CALL-IN SHEET SHOWING SHIPMENT TO CHAPIN OWEN COMPANY, JUNE 30, 1927. It is great that the Cody Museum which houses the Winchester records now has Savage records too. This one is simply listed as: "Carbine, Caliber .303" date of shipment etc. listed above. I believe Chapin Owen Co. was located in Rochester, NY. This solid frame 20" barrel carbine is in top condition. It retains about all the deep original barrel blue with only some very minor freckling toward the muzzle. The receiver blue- is about full coverage, even on the bottom. The sides of the lever show fine case colors and the butt plate retains some thinning blue in the center area. Markings are sharp, wood is excellent with a couple of typical hairline cracks coming back from the receiver that go nowhere (one on the left side and one behind the upper tang). Tight action with good brass rotor spring, excellent, sharp and bright bore (Huntington's advertises .303 Savage brass). Correct Lyman tang sight with Rocky Mountain blade front sight and "blank" filler in the rear sight dovetail. One of the better Savage Carbines I've seen in a long while and particularly attractive with higher grade walnut!
