Early First Year Savage Model 99H Feather Weight Take Down 22 HP 1912
Description: Serial #120440, .22 Savage High Power (.22 HP), 20 inch tapered lightweight barrel with a bright, near excellent bore. This is a very early first year production Savage Model 99H Featherweight take down rifle that shipped from the factory on January 25, 1912 which was the year the cartridge was introduced with an accepted date of January 05, 1912 making this one of the very first in the production line for that caliber. Verified with a letter from the Cody Firearms Records Office that is included. The lever action carbine is in excellent overall condition with the barrel and receiver retaining about 80-85% of the original blue finish with some moderate freckles and use marks on the barrel and thinning to grey on the carry areas of the frame. The case color has mostly faded on the lever with traces of the once vibrant color on the concealed portions. The stock is solid with some very light use marks and old contusions and sports the original hard rubber Savage butt plate which is intact except for a small chip at the toe. The Schnabel tip forearm has a shallow crack extending along the upper right edge for about ¾ of the length that appears stable and is otherwise excellent. The Savage marked adjustable rear sight is a slightly later addition with a 1914 patent date. This model is equipped with the oval brass shell counter on the left side of the receiver. An excellent, very early first year production 22 HP & a rifle combination that Savage promoted as being able to take game as large as Tigers that, however, was shot lived for big game but a gained a loyal following for predator hunting.
