Savage 1899 (pre 99) Half Round Half Oct. Nice Shape Nice Bore Very Cheap
Description: Interesting Savage model 1899 Pre 99; these fine guns were first chambered in this cal (similar to a 30 30 with a slightly heavier bullet) and then later in other cals. First introduced (replacing earlier models) in 1899. This gun dates to approx 1911 or so with serial # 100,086. It came with a 26" half round half octogon barrel which was shortened at some time to approx 20". The original front site was somewhat crudely re installed. Metal and wood are EXCEPTIONAL for their age. Some type of laquor seems to have covered the metal which comes off with a pot scubber (non steel wool) and elbow grease. Bore is also very good. At some point an old Weaver scope was added using the clever Pachmayer swing away mount that allows for the scope to be flipped to the left in the event it became fogged, snow covered or damaged while hunting leaving acces to the open sights. A tang sight had been installed on the upper tang using factory holes but is now gone (needs filler screws) and filler screws have been re installed in the scope mounting holes. Scope is poor cosmetically but is actually uncommonly clear for a scope this old and has fine traditional cross hairs. No value is attributed to the scope but it does make it more usable and interesting and may be used with or without scope. People seem to be asking a lot of $ for old Savages and we have priced this one to sell quickly and below any others that we are aware of. There is a very small drying split starting on the right side of the butt stock near the upper tang but it appears stable and has not been fiddled with. The wood which is properly serialzied to the gun is in extraordinary shape. Scope and mount removed before shipping.
