The quintesential New England and Upper Midwest Deer Rifle. Chambered in modern .308 Win with factory loadings at one time up to about 220 gr or more bullet wt. Good for game up to and including Moose and Elk in capable hands. There is some blue loss from carry on the receiver but ZERO pitting and no cracks or splits in the tang where these so often split .This is...just an honest 99 Featherweight that has been well used and well cared for.
It is a 1961 gun and as such has the best of the old and the new:...In 1960 Savage changed from the lever to the more convenient tang safety yet still retains the classic hand checkering on the handsome American Walnut Stock set. There is abolutely no split at the tang where so many 99's did. It retains some case color on parts of the lever. In 1960 these had the nice damacented bolt, still had the brass rotoray mag, cartridge counter and cocking indicator. Still has the original steel butt plate and the stock is the correct factory lenght.
Good original Savage 99 F (Featherweights") from the late 50's to mid 60's we be harder and harder to find as time goes on.

The quintesential New England and Upper Midwest Deer Rifle. Chambered in modern .308 Win with factory loadings at one time up to about 220 gr or more bullet wt. Good for game up to and including Moose and Elk in capable hands. There is some blue loss from carry on the receiver but ZERO pitting and no cracks or splits in the tang where these so often split .This is...just an honest 99 Featherweight that has been well used and well cared for.
It is a 1961 gun and as such has the best of the old and the new:...In 1960 Savage changed from the lever to the more convenient tang safety yet still retains the classic hand checkering on the handsome American Walnut Stock set. There is abolutely no split at the tang where so many 99's did. It retains some case color on parts of the lever. In 1960 these had the nice damacented bolt, still had the brass rotoray mag, cartridge counter and cocking indicator. Still has the original steel butt plate and the stock is the correct factory lenght.
Good original Savage 99 F (Featherweights") from the late 50's to mid 60's we be harder and harder to find as time goes on.
