Savage 99F Mid 1950's Classic Deer Rifle Ex Cond No Non Factory holes. Totally Original
Description:
While we think of these as the quintessentional New England Deer Rifle (Made a little to the West in NY State and then just up the road from us in Mas) they were carried and used by knowledgable woodsman across the Country and beyond. Chambered in 300 Savage (ballistically almost identical to Win 308) they may be use on game up to moose and blackl bear. Although the original design goes back to 1895, the F or Featherweight are among our favorites and we bring them in whenever we can. lst produced in 1955 (this gun was made between 55 and 58) and made in one or another variations until 1973 approx. The F stands for Featherweight....all of these have 22" light contour barrels and the butt stocks were hollowed at the Factory to save weight and forends were more slender and shaped differntly and also more slender.
During the lst few years the safety was on the lever then later production starting arond 1960 to a tang safety. This model has all the desdired features that contributed to making these fine guns so unique: cocking indicator, round counter, engine turned bolt, factory drilled and tapped for scope and lightweight barrel.
Nice case color on thne parts of the lever not exposed to the elements or sunlight.
Does not have the characteristic split behind the upper tang fourn on many...no reparis, no non factory holes or meaningful scratches. Carry wear and some light imperfections underside of receiver.
Most will not know this but the 300 Savaage was developed to be balistically similar to the 30 06 in the hopes of getting Govt contracts....
The scope ...a 3x9 is an inexpensive import but is actually very clear and bright and makes an excellent companion to this rifle .

While we think of these as the quintessentional New England Deer Rifle (Made a little to the West in NY State and then just up the road from us in Mas) they were carried and used by knowledgable woodsman across the Country and beyond. Chambered in 300 Savage (ballistically almost identical to Win 308) they may be use on game up to moose and blackl bear. Although the original design goes back to 1895, the F or Featherweight are among our favorites and we bring them in whenever we can. lst produced in 1955 (this gun was made between 55 and 58) and made in one or another variations until 1973 approx. The F stands for Featherweight....all of these have 22" light contour barrels and the butt stocks were hollowed at the Factory to save weight and forends were more slender and shaped differntly and also more slender.
During the lst few years the safety was on the lever then later production starting arond 1960 to a tang safety. This model has all the desdired features that contributed to making these fine guns so unique: cocking indicator, round counter, engine turned bolt, factory drilled and tapped for scope and lightweight barrel.
Nice case color on thne parts of the lever not exposed to the elements or sunlight.
Does not have the characteristic split behind the upper tang fourn on many...no reparis, no non factory holes or meaningful scratches. Carry wear and some light imperfections underside of receiver.
Most will not know this but the 300 Savaage was developed to be balistically similar to the 30 06 in the hopes of getting Govt contracts....
The scope ...a 3x9 is an inexpensive import but is actually very clear and bright and makes an excellent companion to this rifle .
