This Savage Model 1899D was made exclusively for the Montreal Home Guard during World War I. This rifle is possibly one of only 2500 produced, though many believe that there were far less produced and issued to the Montreal Home Guard. Serial number research shows this Model 1899 to have been made in February 1915. The steel and wood condition of this rifle are very good. The bluing has light surface scratches in places, as well as some light pitting on the receiver. Please note bluing condition in the above photographs. .303 Savage
