1943 Savage (USA) Lee Enfield No4mk1* - US Property marked - British Lend / Lease
Description:
Here we have a Lee Enfield No4mk1* - manufactured by Savage of USA in 1943 with 95% or better original phospahte and service replacement walnut wood. It has a matching 46C series serial number on the receiver and bolt body. Owing to the different properties of salts sourced for the phosphating process - each worldwide maker had a unique variation within the standards - the Savage process lead to a very dark brown finish - this rifle is exhibiting this on the receiver, barrel and bolt as well as other parts - especillay under flash photography.
The rear sight is a fabricated mk3 made by BSA (M47C) which may have been added during British wartime service. This has elevation marks and grooves for the cursor to change between.
Other Savage distinguished components include - the (10 round) magaizine body fabrication style and a fabricated front sight protector.
Front lower wood has a poorly struck makers mark the Butt stock was made duing WW2 by contractor code N49.
The bolt head has 2 to 3 degrees overturn on the bolt body and is a size #1 made by Savage - as is the bolt body. A US "flaming bomb" mark is present on the receiver (left wrist) bolt body and bolt head.
