c1920s MOSSBERG “PREMIER” Slide Action .22 S L LR Rifle SAVAGE MERIDEN C&R
Takedown Design with Octagonal Barrel
Description: c1920s MOSSBERG “PREMIER” Slide Action .22 S L LR Rifle SAVAGE MERIDEN C&R Takedown Design with Octagonal Barrel Here we present a C&R Mossberg Premier Slide Action Rifle in .22 Short, Long, Long Rifle, made circa the 1920s in New Haven, Connecticut. Slide action .22 rimfire rifles of the early 20th Century were what semi-automatic rimfire rifles are today. They could be shot quickly and many of them had a takedown feature, like this one. This one also has an octagonal barrel. This rifle’s design appears to have come by way of the Savage family. Arthur W. Savage, the inventor of the Model 99 lever action rifle and namesake of the Savage Arms company of Utica, New York, sold his firearms business and moved to Duarte, California, where he invented the radial tire. It seems the apples didn’t fall far from the tree as his sons followed in his footsteps in the firearms industry and inventing. His son Basil was granted a patent, which was then used on Savage rifles as well as on Meriden rifles of the same type (Models K, M, S & Premier). It turns out his brother Arthur J. Savage worked at Meriden Firearms Co. at this time. Meriden (in Meriden, Connecticut) was initially established by Sear, Roebuck & Co. to manufacture firearms exclusively for their stores. It seems when Meriden stopped production circa 1918, Sears & Roebuck tapped Mossberg to make their store branded guns and went about basing their Premier on the Meriden Model 15. This would have been a small bore rifle that would have been a fun plinker and an effective game harvester as well as having been many a boy’s first firearm. The overall condition is good+. The action is excellent. The bore is in good shape with good rifling. The stock is solid, showing wear. A neat piece that would have been a game getter during the Great Depression and beyond. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Caliber: .22 S, L, LR Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $900 #217990 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
