Savage Model 10 Cal. 270 WSM with a 20" barrel
LIKE NEW NEVER FIRED
Description: Never been in the field nor has it ever had scope mounts put on it. Strictly a closet gun since purchased which was around 2005. (The box was in pretty bad shape when it arrived and was not saved.) Savage made it’s claim to fame among hunters with the high quality accurate lever action Savage 99. Their modern bolt action guns are of equal high quality and very accurate. This model 10 has Savage’s new accuTrigger which gives you a custom like trigger easily adjustable. Over all length is 40 ½ inches. It weighs 7 lbs 6 ounces. This rifle has a removable clip which is great for fast unloading or reloading. All WSM calibers can use short actions which means a few ounces less weight then the standard length actions and faster recycling time The cartridge it uses, Winchester Short Magnum .270 is interesting. Gun writer Chuck Hawks said the following when the cartridge came out: “This is the most useful of the WSM line of cartridges. Unlike the other WSMs, the .270 does not simply duplicate the ballistics of an existing cartridge...... The advertised ballistics of the .270 WSM (Winchester Short Magnum) fall between the ballistics of the standard .270 Win. and the powerful .270 Weatherby Magnum. ......Clearly, the .270 WSM will make an exemplary long range cartridge and it is suitable for consideration as an all-around caliber for thin skinned game.” He goes on to say that it will shoot bullets from 90 to 180 grains although neither of those are recommended. Best results come from using 130, 140 or 150 grain bullets. My intention, never realized, in buying this rifle was first to be able to hunt deer in a heavily wooded area in Wisconsin where most shots are less than 200 yards. I wanted flat shooting and greater maneuverability afforded by the 20" barrel of the Savage as opposed to my 24" barreled 30-06. I also wanted to be able to go out West and hunt pronghorn where shots at 300 to 400 yards are the norm and with a caliber whose recoil wasn’t going to beat me up sighting it in. I still believe it to be a near perfect rifle and cartridge for these two hunting situations. In addition, since 2005 most of the ammo companies have come out with new bullets with higher ballistic coefficients resulting in better down range hitting power. This rifle is priced very competitively at only $325. SALE PENDING Shipping is about $50 for lower 48. I have to charge $30 more if I cannot ship it direct to your FFL and have to pay my local FFL dealer to ship it to your FFL. If you have not bought a gun this way before, know that gun shops are usually happy to do this service as this is an easy source of revenue for them. It shouldn't cost more than $30.
