Description:
Here we have an attractive early Savage Model 1899 Takedown lever-action rifle chambered in the desirable .300 Savage cartridge. Manufactured 1923, this rifle is from the transitional era before the model designation changed to the Model 99 and is correctly marked "Savage Model 1899."
This rifle features the sought-after factory takedown system, allowing the barrel and forend assembly to be quickly separated from the receiver for compact transport and storage. The takedown mechanism locks up securely and functions as intended.
The rifle is fitted with a 24-inch round Hi-Pressure Steel barrel, rotary magazine with brass cartridge counter, factory sporting sights, straight-grip walnut stock, and schnabel forearm. The bore is a standout feature—bright with sharp rifling, making this rifle an excellent candidate for both collecting and shooting.
Overall condition is very good. The metal retains an attractive finish with light handling wear. The walnut stock is solid with normal marks from honest use. A ventilated recoil pad has been installed, and the stock has been shortened to accommodate it. Aside from this modification, the rifle retains its classic early Savage appearance.
