Schultz and Larsen .22lr match rifle
Description:
M32 and M70 Schultz and Larsen target or Match rifles, .22lr, with rear diopter sights and irises. Offered as a set for collector or user value, but individual rifles can be purchased separately if desired. If purchased separately, a combined discount will be lost. The rifles are approximately equal in value, due to the rarity of the M32 in the USA market.
M32: production was 7400-7500 rifles. The one offered has some loss of the screw grove on the bolt (the retaining scre for the end cap nut), and a small additional spring to increase striking force, but it fully functional and the added spring can be removed. It uses a 2 bolt barrel retention system, but the stock is slightly warpe, so that a shim is needed under the rear bolt to keep the action from binding the bolt when operated. Front sight uses round inserts. Addional ones can be included with the purchase, if desired (extra cost). Initials are carved in the fore-end. Except for the bolt as noted, operation is excellent. The bolt is removed by pulling the trigger, which serves as the bolt stop.
M70: Production was approximately 11,000 rifles. A number of these were imported to the USA as end scrap or leftover guns, most not in good condition, but a few in acceptable condition. The double set trigger version was not rare, but not common. The usual butt plate with hook is preset on this rifle. The fore-end cross piece can be used in a number of ways as a rest, including on the knee or thigh in the prone position.
The standard M70 sight was a post within tunnel, with a hole drilled intro it (see image). This post with hole is very difficult to find, and somewhat difficult to duplicate. Therefore, a useable front tunnel, identical in style to the M32 is included. This inserts in a transverse dovetail on the barrel. The DST operation is excellent, but will not operate at as light a pull as the other (Walther,FWB, Anschutz) target rifles in my listings.
The barrels of both rifles have light corrosion. This has not been repaired, but that can be done easily if desired. Bores are perfect. Bolts are a good fit with tight locking into place, but not as tight as on the Walther and Anschutz rifles offered in my listings.
Due to current weather, the corrosion has not been repaired as yet on the barrels. Current plan is to repair that without complete refinishing during the summer or fall, as usually that can be done with no noticable difference in color or finish. Once done, price will be about 20%-30% higher, however.
In the image series, the M32 is first. Those of the M70 begin with the "isolated" sight tunnel that is provided for use with that rifle.
Both rifles are C&R status.
