Berdan Sharpshooters Sharps Model 1859 military rifle. Made in 1860s. Has a 30” barrel in .52 caliber. This nice sharp gun is way above average condition for these models of guns. The barrel has approximately 50% arsenal blue. “OWA” (Orville W Alinsworth) inspection stamp is on the side of the barrel. The wood is very good. There is a very light cartouche on the right side. These guns are distinguished by their double set triggers. This gun is equipped with them and they work perfectly. These guns were issued to the 1st and 2nd U.S. Sharp Shooters, command by Hiram Berdan. These units selected men with superior shooting skills. Berdan chose the Sharps rifle with double set trigger. These units saw extensive service in all the major battles including Gettysburg. Very fine historical Sharps Berdan rifle!
