Antique SHARPS “New Model 1863” .50-70 GOVT CARTRIDGE CONVERSION Carbine
Classic Civil War/Old West Saddle Ring Carbine
Description: Antique SHARPS “New Model 1863” .50-70 GOVT CARTRIDGE CONVERSION Carbine Classic Civil War/Old West Saddle Ring Carbine Here we present an antique Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine, made circa 1864, then converted to 50-70 Govt circa 1867 for use in the West by the federal government. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. In 1867, the Ordnance Department contracted with the Sharps Rifle Company for conversion of over 31,000 Sharps percussion carbines to the .50-70 breech loading configuration. These carbines were issued to the regular cavalry regiments on the Western Frontier and remained in service until they were replaced by the Springfield Model 1873 Carbine. The carbine has a blued barrel with casehardened barrel band, receiver, loading lever and butt plate. The stock and forearm are oil-finished black walnut. The carbine is fitted with the standard folding rear sight and has a sling bar and ring mounted on the left side of the stock and receiver. The left side of the receiver is stamped faintly with the two-line Sharps patent marks and the Lawrence and Sharps patent markings are stamped on the right side of the receiver along with under the rear sight. They went on to experience some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the West, and the connecting of the coasts with the railroad. The overall condition is good. The action is excellent. The bore is reflective and well-rifled with a few spots of pitting. The stock shows weathering and wear commensurate with the period and type of use. There is a crack at the rear of the top tang that is very old and stable. The hammer screw is absent. The cartouche on the left wrist is visible. This is a wonderful old Sharps carbine that made its way through the Civil War and was updated for continued use during the Indian Wars! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .50-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2765 #210056 SOLD Antique: Yes |
