Here Ancestry Guns presents an Antique Sharps Model 1851 Box Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine, made between 1852 and 1855. This model is important as the first Sharps that was made as a military weapon. These were Christian Sharps’s design that was made by Robbins & Lawrence in Windsor, Vermont. There was a contract for these for both the US Army & US Navy, though we do not observe those markings on this piece. Those 150 guns that were received by the Army were issued to the 1st & 2nd Regiments of Dragoons, who were on the Frontier in Texas and New Mexico. These would have been on the cutting edge of firearm technology in the 1850s, and they laid the groundwork to become one of the most prolific and renowned weapons by the time the American Civil War ended.

The overall condition is good. Modestly refinished. Both the forend and stock are in very good shape with average handling evidence. Strong action. The maintains some shimmer and serviceable rifling.
