Description: For sale we have a Sharps New Model 1863 Metallic Cartridge Conversion Saddle Ring Carbine in .50-70 Government. This gun was manufactured during the Civil War and subsequently converted to metallic cartridge after the war. Starting in 1867, 31,000 Sharps carbines were converted to .50-70 Government for use in the Indian Wars. Most had relined 3-groove barrels, but some kept the original 6-groove barrel if it was still serviceable. This model has the updated 1865 style buttstock with clearly legible DFC cartouche, C. Sharps action with 1852 and 1859 patent dates, saddle ring, and original 6-groove barrel. Gun is in very good condition, mechanically excellent, with scattered pitting in the bore, sharp rifling, and fine patina finish on the metal. Stock is clean with handling marks and a light crack in the toe. This Sharps is a fine example of the carbines that saw use in both the Civil War and subsequent Indian Wars. Antique, no FFL required.
