RARE SHILOH SHARPS, BIG TIMBER, MONTANA OFFERING: 1874 .45-70 THREE BAND MILITARY RIFLE, #2XXXB.  This rifle was ordered some years ago and the buyer simply never got around to shooting it. So, I ended up with it! It is a standard Military Model that has not been offered or cataloged by Shiloh for a number of years. This example has the polished barrel option and is fitted with nicely grained deep reddish/brown walnut that is a little better than the usual standard grade. Has the Lawrence ladder rear sight and is also fitted with a heavy military sling- all of which have seen no use at all and look the same as the day it left the Shiloh factory. From a historical perspective, many of these Military Model Sharps rifles in the 1870s were shipped to Western dealers especially in Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming for the buffalo hide hunters. They proved less expensive than heavy sporting models but were just as powerful and accurate with opoen sights. These don’t turn up often, especially in like new, unfired condition.
