"Identified Sharps Model 1853 Texas Marked Gun (AL4013)
Description: " Identified Sharps Model 1853 Texas Marked Gun. Brass furniture. Dark gray patina on metal. Action works perfect. Bore is bright and shiny with some pitting. Wood is very good. Right hand side of the stock in front of the patch box has a star stamped with “Texas” in the center. Along with this Sharps comes a binder of information from previous owners and provenance this gun belong to Henry Pitts of the 1st Battalion Texas Sharp Shooters. A previous owner purchased this gun in from a man in Fort Phatom, Texas which is north of Abilene. After making his purchase, he began cleaning the gun and under the grime found the Texas marked star along with a piece of paper in the patch box that had the name of Henry Pitts, presumably a previous owner. After contacting The Hill College History Complex in Hillsborough, Texas, he found out that Henry Pitts was in the 1st Battalion Texas Sharp Shooters. This gun comes with the original piece of paper found in the patch box, correspondence from The Hill College History Complex, a letter from the man who originally found the Sharps and papers relating who Henry Pitts was including his muster rolls and history of the 1st Battalion of Texas Sharpshooters.
