Civil War SHARPS & HANKINS Model 1862 SHORT CAVALRY .52 Caliber RF CARBINE
1 of only 1000 Made Circa 1863
Description: Civil War SHARPS & HANKINS Model 1862 SHORT CAVALRY .52 Caliber RF CARBINE 1 of only 1000 Made Circa 1863 Here we present an antique Sharps and Hankins Model 1862 Short Cavalry Carbine manufactured circa 1863 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is one of approximately 1,000 Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 Short Cavalry Carbines manufactured from 1862 to 1865. One of the units issued these carbines was the 9th New York Cavalry which was present and claims the first shot fired at the Battle of Gettysburg as part of Second Brigade which was part of Brigadier General John Buford's 1st Division. The shape of the carbine is distinctly Sharps and operates a bit differently than other carbines of the era. The trigger guard doubles as a lever, which is opened by pressing a small tab inside the smaller loop of the lever. Opening the lever slides the barrel away from the recoil shield for loading and unloading. The overall condition is good. The action does not function due to a broken or missing main spring. Good bore for its age. Solid stock throughout. Tang screw is missing causing some wiggle at the frame. Both sets of sights are missing. The lever falls slightly with gravity having lost some tension over time. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 19 inches. Caliber: .52 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #230071 SOLD Antique: Yes |
