PRESENTATION MODEL 1853 SHARPS SPORTING RIFLE
Description:
44 caliber. 25 inch octagon barrel. Bore has just a few minor pits and very good rifling. This rifle is listed in factory records as "Fine Engraved" which is the second highest of the four levels of engraving offered. There is a very nice plaque that says "Presented to James M Marvin by M.D.B. New Years 1855". This gun would deserve some more research done. Overall metal is pretty much a plum/brown color with sharp corners and excellent markings. Engraving is quite elaborate. Wood is sound and solid with a good amount of original finish. Patchbox is also elaborately engraved. Double set triggers. Original rear sight and replacement hooded front sight. This is a very attractive gun!
