Sharps 1874 45/70 Old Reliable "Business" rifle with 1877 Denver Co. History
Description:
Here is a very nice Sharps 1874 "Business Rifle" as described in the "Sharps Rifle Company " archives.
Serial number 157684 in very nice condition with a 28 inch heavy all round barrel. weight in at 11 pounds.
This belonged to my dad who was a master gunsmith and woodworker / stock maker and this has been
in the family since the 1980s.
He acquired the rifle without a stock and made the stock that you see from walnut. He has his name in the stock
under the buttplate and every thing else is original.
He used another sharps rifle he had to copy the stock so it looks factory..
There is slight pitting on the barrel for about 4 inches back from the muzzle and the rest of the barrel is patinated
very nicely.
I have recently fired this rifle using Double Tap .45-70 405gr. JSP 1805fps cartridges.
it performed as it should and the only thing that had a problem was my shoulder. OUCH.
Anyway the rifling is strong and the bore is very nice and shiny.
