This is a nice example of one of the Model 1862 Sharps & Hankins carbines purchased by the U.S. Navy between 1862-1865. It is a fully functional gun......hammer cocks, safety works etc. Good wood to metal fit with no chips, cracks or repairs. Check out the screws, they look UNTOUCHED!! Bore is still shiny with only small amounts of pitting. The carbine features the unique leather barrel cover to protect the blue barrel from rust. Leather is cracked and some is missing. The stock is an oil-finished walnut with a brass buttplate. The right side of the receiver is marked: "SHARPS / & / HANKINS / PHILDA" and the left side is marked: "SHARPS / PATENT / 1859". The serial number is located on the upper tang, on the lever bar, the underside of the barrel and the underside of the frame under the lever.
