SHARPS "BIG FIFTY" EXTRA HEAVY BARREL CONVERSION SINGLE SHOT RIFLE
Description: Chambered in 50-90, the EXTRA HEAVY 30 inch barrel measures 1-1/4 inch across the flats at muzzle. The top has the boxed "Old Reliable" marking along with "SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT, CONN.” ahead of the rear sight, “CALIBRE 50” ahead of the frame and is marked “37082” beneath the forearm to match the frame. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny with strong rifling. Sights include a Rocky Mountain style front with a German silver blade and a Lawrence patent folding ladder rear. Has been fitted with a replacement walnut forearm made to fit the heavy barrel. The frame is numbered “37082” on the upper tang. It was originally a model 1859 military arm and like many other surplus Civil War Sharps rifles was converted to a cartridge firearm during the Buffalo hunting period. The rifle lock retains its pellet primer feed mechanism and features double-set triggers. The original stock shows 4 military inspection cartouches on the left side, 3 above the triggers and 1 center panel. It’s fitted with a carbine buttplate, an iron patchbox, and an inlet rear swivel base. Weighing over 15 pounds, this is a BIG HEAVY gun.
