A very nice example of this famous Civil War carbine. The barrel exterior, by and large, retains about 80% of the original blue. There are several patches of light pin prick rust from the barrel band back to the receiver. The balance of the barrel exterior is quite nice.
For the most part, the receiver, hammer and trigger guard show a silvered finish with some small areas soft scattered pinpricks.
In general it is really quite clean.
Some areas still showing the vestiges of case color. The buttplate looks to be silvered with several large areas of surface rust. The stock, while retaining 85% of the original lacquer, has numerous surface dings and a few small chips.
The butt has an inspector's cartouche, with the initials DFC in a wavy box. The right does show an area about 1-1/2” wide where a piece of tape was removed.
The upper tang is indeed cracked. The interior of the gun shows very little use. The bore, while having a bit of light frost, is quite bright with very sharp and well defined rifling.
A great piece for the re-enactor or a conversation piece over the fireplace........ $895.
