SHARPS MODEL 1853 RIFLE
Description: REDUCED PRICE! This is a fine example of the Sharps Model 1853 sporting rifle. Lockplate, lever, hammer, trigger plate, butt plate, barrel and receiver retains a smooth and grey patina. The SN 9265 is stamped on the receiver and barrel. The bore is a 32 Bore (52 Cal.) as listed on the included Sharps factory letter. The rifle has a 26″ long heavy weight (1 1/8” at the bore, 1 3/8” at the breech) octagonal barrel with the standard 3 line address reading “SHARP’S RIFLE / MANUFG. CO. / HARTFORD CONN”. The bore has strong, sharp rifling in a modestly dark bore with powder pitting in the lands. It retains the original Sharps front sight with a silver blade and the Sharps single leaf rear sight. The rifle has a non-checkered, straight grain American walnut buttstock with minor dings from period use, while the original Sharps forearm has been replaced and period carved with initials of a former owner, Henry Faris of Kansas (see documentation). Mechanically, the action is very tight, and the double set triggers work perfectly. According to Sharps Rifles, by Frank Sellers, there were only 295 guns of this 32 bore caliber in all barrel lengths produced for the Model 1853 Sharps. This rifle is sold as a collector piece. This rifle comes with a Sharps factory letter and limited documentation of the prior owner, Henry Farris, who resided in Kansas during the 1860s and was a buffalo hunter. Price reduced to $3100. Thanks for looking. Payment via personal check/postal Money Order ONLY! No credit cards, PayPal, etc.; rifle will be shipped after payment is cleared by the bank; email me for all questions and/or requests for additional pictures. $120 for shipping to lower 48 (will be shipped in a hard case); supplemental shipping insurance, if requested by the buyer, will be borne by the buyer. Thanks for your interest.
