Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine Conversion...Post Civil War...LAYAWAY?
Description: S O L D ..............50-70 CF, Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine Conversion...Post Civil War...LAYAWAY?... .50-70 CF. 22" round barrel. SN: 52945. Blued and color casehardened finish, iron furniture, walnut stock and forend. Single shot breechloading percussion carbine altered to cartridge by Springfield Arsenal circa 1867-1868 and known to some collectors the Model 1868. No barrel markings remain visible. Standard patent markings for the Lawrence pelter primer on the obverse lock behind the hammer and standards Sharps patent markings on the lock and reverse of the breech block. A clear DFC (David F Clark) script cartouche in a ribbon is present in the center of the reverse of the stock. Carbine retains the long range ladder rear and sight, fixed front sight and sling bar with ring. Three groove Springfield Arsenal lined bore. While this carbine is not listed in the Springfield Research Service serial number books, two very close to it are, #52937 and #52957. Both were in the possession of Company B of the 4th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War, when the guns were still in their original percussion configuration. Condition: VG-FINE.... Bore is fine and bright. Likely, a shooter! Lightly scattered pinpricking and very good rifling. Barrel with much of an old, applied blue finish. Frame mostly a silvery gray color. Markings in metal mostly legible although part of the reverse frame markings are worn away. Mechanically functional. Stock near excellent! ...S/H $55....2nd FIREARM SHIPS FREE WITH THIS ONE!...
