Sharps New Model 1863 Saddle Ring Carbine (50-70 Govt Cartridge Conversion)

Description:
In 1867, the U.S. Ordnance Department contracted with the Sharps Rifle Company for conversion of over 30,000 Sharps percussion carbines and 1,000 rifles to either the .52-70 rimfire or the .50-70 GOVT centerfire configuration. Some of these arms retained their original six-groove rifling, while the bores of others were re-lined with three-groove rifling, as is this example. New buttstocks without cartridge boxes were used in all cases where replacement was required, regardless of the original configuration. The converted Carbines were stamped DFC for inspector David F. Clark in a banner cartouche on the side of the stock.

These carbines were issued to the regular cavalry regiments on the western frontier and remained in service until they were replaced by the Springfield Model 1873 Carbine. The carbine has a blued barrel with casehardened barrel band, receiver, loading lever and butt plate.The folding rear sight leaf is missing. The stock and forearm are oil-finished black walnut and has a sling bar and ring mounted on the left side of the stock and receiver. The right side of the receiver is stamped with the two-line Sharps patent marks and the Lawrence and Sharps patent markings. They went on to experience some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the Western Frontier, and the connecting of the coasts with the railroad.

The overall condition is about  good. This one has patches of discoloration throughout the exterior. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and some freckling. The stock shows signs of heavy use with chips and small repairs throughout.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

We, in certain cases, at our discretion, may agree to allow an item to be put on layaway. Layaways must be agreed to prior to purchase. Our layaway policy is 1/2 of the final total as down payment with 60 days to pay the balance. Cancellation results in a 20% restocking fee based on the purchase price.

Shipping
We ship firearms via UPS. They must be sent to an FFL. Hand guns must travel via Air, whilst long guns and other items can go via Ground. Non-firearm accessories, such as magazines, can be shipped via USPS Priority Mail at the customer's request. We provide tracking numbers with all of our transactions. If you'd like a shipping estimate, please contact us through the and provide, at the very least, a ZIP code as to where the item would be sent.

• If paying by credit card, store policy is to ship to the billing address of the card.
• If paying by Money Order, we can ship to wherever it's legal.
• The exception is, obviously, serialized items.

Legal Policy
We can only ship items to areas in which they are legal. If you live in a more restrictive area, please check your local laws before or buying. We are, for the most part, willing to ship to the 50 states as long as it's legal. We may require proof of legality before proceeding with a transaction that is exempt from a normal law.

Some items are regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA). This includes, but is not limited to, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and suppressors. Please check with your local and state municipalities for any further regulatory requirements. It is the buyer’s responsibility to make sure they comply with all NFA rules and applicable laws. Such items MUST be transferred to a Class 3 FFL via a Form 3, and then transferred to you via a Form 4 from your local Class 3 dealer. The process of getting a Form 3 approved by the BATFE takes on average 6-8 weeks. Your patience is appreciated.
