LONG DISCONTINUED SHILOH “GEMMER” HAWKEN STYLE OCTAGON SPORTING RIFLE IN .45 2.4” (.45-90) CALIBER! This is a Farmingdale, New York built rifle (before the company moved to Montana) made in the early 1980s. The Gemmer was named after John Gemmer who purchased the famed Hawken shop in St. Louis in 1864. He was known for converting cartridge rifles (Sharps, Spencer etc.) into “Hawken” stocked sporters with crescent butt stocks with tear drop cheek pieces and forends held to the barrel with twin wedges and wiping rods mounted in thimbles under the barrels. This rifle with 30” barrel weighs just over 10 ½ pounds. It has a beautiful reddish/brown walnut stock and forearm with nice figure, double set triggers, polished blue barrel, fire blued screws and attractively case colored action. Bore is mint and the action as tight as the day it was made. Aside from a few very light handling marks in the wood and a touch of blue wear on top of the barrel (ahead of the receiver and behind the fancy Hawken-style buckhorn sight) this rifle appears to have seen little or no use. The Gemmer Shiloh has been out of production for a number of years and was always a very expensive model that took a great deal of hand fitting to build. They rarely come up for sale.
