VERY UNUSUAL SHILOH SHARPS OFFERING: 1863 .50 CAL. PERCUSSION HARTFORD MODEL
Description: VERY UNUSUAL SHILOH SHARPS OFFERING: 1863 .50 CAL. PERCUSSION HARTFORD MODEL WITH 32" HEAVY OCTAGON BARREL, #1XXXB, MADE ABOUT 2003 IN BIG TIMBER, MONTANA. Shiloh doesn't turn out many of these sporters and when ordered take longer to deliver than the standard M-1874 cartridge rifles. This one weighs a full 12 1/4 lbs. and features fancy dark/burly walnut with AA finish, pewter forend tip and Hartford collar on the barrel. It is fitted with a semi-buckhorn Lawrence ladder rear sight with an extra full-buckhorn Lawrence ladder sight and a blade front sight. It is factory drilled and tapped on the upper tang for any kind of tang sight if wanted. Standard case colored receiver, lever, hammer and butt plate with blued barrel. Overall has seen light/limited use and aside from some minor handling marks mainly on the stock, it is excellent. The action is tight, double set triggers work perfectly and the bore is minty bright. On a personal note, I'm a fan of these and have several in different calibers. I breech seat any .50 cal. slug normally used in the .50-70 or .50-90 cartridges, add loose black powder and a percussion cap. These are big, powerful rifles and accuracy is exceptional. I wrote an article for Black Powder cartridge News magazine on loading/shooting the Shiloh 1863 percussion sporters and I will enclose a copy of that article if desired. Current catalog price on this rifle and extra sight would be over $3800. My price on this one $3200.
