This 22 Long Rifle single shot Mauser Sportmodell Es 340 B rifle was awarded by Mauser as a shooting prize. The oval plaque on the right buttstock reads ""Heidelberger Schiessmeisterschafter 1938 Ehrengabe der Mauser-Werke A.G. Oberrndorf a.N"". Essentially this rifle was the Mauser factory prize for the Heidelberg championship shooting match in 1938. The overall length of this fine rifle is approx. 45.5"". The approx. 26.5"" barrel has an excellent bore with bright, strong rifling. It is equipped with a blade front sight with sight cover and a Kar98 type elevation and windage adjustable tangent rear sight. In addition, a Kahles, Vienna HELIA 4 S2 telescopic sight is installed. It has a post and crosshair reticle and the optics are excellent. The gun has approx. 98% blue. The left side of the barrel is marked with the serial number over PATRONE 22 LONG RIFLE. This is followed by crown over B, U, and G inspection and acceptance stamps. The right side of the barrel is stamped D.R.P. D.R.G.M. This indicates that the rifle is patented. The left side of the receiver has crown over U and B proof marks followed by the serial number followed by MAUSER WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF a.N. The stock, with a checkered pistol grip, is fine with light finish and usage wear. The round MAUSER logo is impressed in the stock just to the rear of the award plaque. Two sling swivels are present and the hard rubber buttplate, with the boxed MAUSER logo, is excellent. Interestingly, this rifle has a large winter trigger guard. It is the only one we have encountered like this. The action functions correctly. This fine shooting prize Mauser Sportmodell would be a great fit in a training rifle, target rifle, prize rifle, or Third Reich training rilfle collection.
