Walther GX-1 (the ultimate in the KKM Series)

Description:
Ideal Father's Day gift.  Accuracy comparable to be best of the current Match grade Anschutz M54, FWB, and Walther models  but at significantly lower price.  If desired at about half the price, a 1413, complete, also is available.

With weights, shoulder piece, rear arm, hand stop, stirrup, OEM diopter, front sight but also with very high quality non-OEM filter and iris set for the rear diopter sight, and sun shade for front tunnel.  Original type OEM rear pinhole can be provided.  Additional OEM front sight discs and source provided with purchase.

The GX-1 is a complete, ultimate competition rifle from the 1980s, from the "first series" production (one piece fore-end).  It is as accurate as the current Walther and Anshutz production.  Of interest for comparison to more recent guns, experimentation with the countervibration system, or for one who just wants an extremely accurate rifle with full sight set at around $3000.  Among the GX-1 that have reached the US market, the rear sight on this rifle is unique, unusually fine, and virtually never seen in the US..

Current retail value of is approximately $3500, considering the exceptional rear iris, completeness of accessories, and condition.  If interested in purchasing, please email an offer to consider.  An offer of about $3050 plus shipping is likely to be accepted.  Phone calls are fine, but due to the number of junk calls received and call filtering, email is better for initial contact.  Basis for the offer, including reasons for request of the items as a gift for charitable or other purposes, can be considered.

A high quality, full metal stock system is available for this rifle, for those who prefer the option for that type of stock.

Excellent used condition, difficult to differentiate from new from appearance alone.

The weights are to tune the rifle vibration pattern, serving a purpose parallel to barrel mounted tuners, but less sensitive to operating temperatures.  These do need to be adjusted for specific ammunition used, and ambient temperature (sometimes).

Shown with rear arm reversed, for use in standing or seated position if desired.  Butt plate also is mounted inverted for this purpose, in the images.  Hand stop has been mounted reversed, to avoid loss of the part.  Stirrup also illustrated in alternative position for specific purposes.

The stock on the GX-1 was Walther's first attempt at an adjustable stock.  This design dates to the 1960's, developed for the military version of their JR, then used on the commercial verions of the JR.  This evolved from, and was developed at a time when FN and a few others had introduced the adjustable stock for their short barrel,.308 sniper rifle, as had others in that era.

The rear arm is "indexed" for two positions, not easily seen in the images.  The butt plate has a ruler for precise adjustment in different positions.

While the stock is adjustable over a fairly wide range of dimensions, the weight of the rifle may require adaptation by the user, particularly if the front end weights are used.  These attach via the fore-end rail and therefore can be mounted in reverse to minimize that effect on balance and center of gravity, but not as easily as on the KK200 offered by me on this site.  The trigger system is standard KKM match design, not the later one used on the KK100 and KK200.  Standard KKM bolt mounted safety.

Similar to a few other rifles that preceded it such as the Anschutz 1413, a pair of scope mounted dovetail blocks specifically for the long sight barrel scopes were preinstalled by Walther on this rifle.  While those V-blocks can be used for rear sights, they were not really intended to be used as alternative blocks for diopter sights, being a little too far from the eye if that is done.

No case, no original paperwork.

Accuracy currently is not inferior to the wood stock KK200.

Historical note:  While the GX-1 was the "ultimate" or end-of-line KKM in time sequence (end of the sequence or era) prior to Walther introducing the KK-100 and Club Sporter (based on the CZ rifles), and the match series KK-200, the truly ultimate accuracy KKM was produced at an early stage of KKM production, using a very heavy barrel, and relatively standard stock with the f0re-end drilled to receive a counterweight if desired.  As a result, while the GX-1 was the end or ultimate design of the KKM rifles in the time-line and introduced the adjustable stock to the Walther target gun design as a transfer from the military rifle designs of the prior decade, it was not the ultimate in accuracy.  The GX-1 rifle itself was no better or worse than the other KKM, except for the presence of the vibration-cancelling weight system, and the adjustable stock. For those who also have a JR rifle (or wish to purchase some along with this rifle), the front stirrup and anti-vibration counter-weight are potentially useful accessories for transfer to those rifles, as well, as they fit the Walther rail but were not available with the JR itself.  The GX-1 stock accessories generally can transfer to the older Walther rifles, such as the JR and KKM.   However, the JR uses a different sight system for Palma and Biathlon type sights and uses and the GX-1 sights do not interchange with those.  If desired, a JR biathlon rifle that can accept these accessories (other than the rear sight) can be made available for combined purchase.

Priced ~$350 less than new-ish GX-1 due to the extremely high quality and cost of the rear sight fittings and sight accessories, increased accuracy of being close to full break in use, and the user-approval terms of sale for accuracy and function.  This rifle is more for the ultimate marksman (particularly one who wants access to this countervibration weight system), than the cosmetic collector.  However, it is in excellent cosmetic condition with minimal wear marks or dings.  However, it was not simply stored as a display piece.

Returnable (if in as-sent condition) if accuracy or function are not as desired.  Extended testing period allowed if desired or  if needed due to local transfer requirements.

Shipping cost depends on buyer location, but is about $75-120 to most CONUS locations.  Local pickup also possible.  C&R.  Lower offers considered (only) if sold in combination with other firearms or firearms sets at higher prices, or offer is from a prior purchaser.

Non-Walther accessories for the Walther GX-1 rifle need to be made, or modified to fit that stock, if not originally for Walther rifles.  Many Anschutz front rail accessories fit the KK-200 stocks without modification.  Most Non-Walther diopter systems can be used without any problem, but the metal Anschutz front discs will not interchange with the Walther metal discs..  The plastic ones (Walther, FWB and Anscutz) of correct diameter will interchange.  The all metal stock is not by Walther, but is very high quality.

Other rifles by this manufacturer in the JR, KKJ, and BV series are potentially available, but not advertised as yet.  Feel free to inquire, if interested.
