J. STEVENS ARMS Co. No. 12 “MARKSMAN” .22 Caliber RF Single Shot Rifle C&R
Underlever BOYS Type TAKEDOWN RIFLE
Description: J. STEVENS ARMS Co. No. 12 “MARKSMAN” .22 Caliber RF Single Shot Rifle C&R Underlever BOYS Type TAKEDOWN RIFLE Here we present a C&R J. Stevens Arms Company No. 12 “Marksman” .22 Rimfire Rifle made sometime after 1916 with a production run between 1912 to 1933 in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. This fun little boys/youth single shot rifle has the traditional Stevens profile, operated with an underlever that allows the barrel to tip up for loading. It came in either .22 Long Rifle, .25 Long, and .32 Rimfire calibers. It featured a 22 inch round barrel, a walnut stock and forend, a silver blade front sight with a “V” block rear sight, and a knurled thumbscrew for takedown. Stevens, well known for its Tip-Up Pistols, Boy’s Rifles, and Sporting Rifles, got its start in Chicopee Falls at the closing years of the Civil War in 1864. Stevens Arms was founded by Joshua Stevens with help from backers W.B. Fay and James Taylor in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, in 1864 as J. Stevens & Co. Their earliest product was a tip-up action single shot pistol. The overall condition is good. Original patina. Strong action. The bore is in good shape, remaining semi-bright and lightly frosted. Solid stock. Remaining markings are legible. “STEVENS” buttplate. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .22 LR Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos.
