Description:
Standard configuration Maynard Saddle Ring Carbine, Second Model, cal. .52, with 20" barrel having a "pinched" blade front sight, three leaf rear sight (graduated for 100, 300, and 500 yards), and marked "G.W.S" on left side of chamber area. "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE./MAY 27. 1851./DEC. 6. 1859." on the left side of the frame; "MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS." on the right side of the frame, single letter inspection marks on several components, the serial number "2542" on the lower tang, and a smooth, straight grain walnut stock with pair of crisp boxed "JM" inspector cartouches on the left side of the wrist.
Condition:
VG+ original condition, the rust blued barrel with 99% of its original rust blue, minor wear and spotting at muzzle, sides of front sight lightly dressed. Faded color case hardening with thinning of release lever, saddle ring and mount. Stock with just a few scattered handling marks, cartouches well detailed. Mirror bore. Correct manual mechanics. A wonderful, martial-marked, Civil War era Maynard Saddle Ring Carbine in exceptional condition.
