Restored antique 1874 Sharps in 40-70 Sharps Bottle Necked
Description: Original Sharps action that was re-case colored and still has all of its markings, with double set triggers. The actions serial number is "C.35871". The barrel is not matching to the action but it is a Sharps barrel in 40-2 1/2 ( 40-70 sharps BN) The caliber markings are on the left barrel flat. The bore is in amazing condition, perhaps it was rebored from a smaller caliber? Its marked with the "Old Reliable" and has the sharps address of Bridgeport Conn. The rear sight is marked "H.S. Lawrence, Patented Feb 15, 1859" . The front sight appears to be a contemporary Sharps front sight with a broken tension spring on top. (easily replaced). The markings on the barrel are not as clear those on the action due to the barrel haveing been re-polished and rust blued. The barrel has a part number of 42857 and the bore is very shiny. There is a small area of roughness just ahead of the chamber but it appears to be very minor. The stock is new and fits the rifle very well, in addition it has the correct Sharps checkered metal butt plate. The rifle appears to be an 1874 sporting rifle that was being restored but I am not an expert.
