1868 Antique AUSTRIAN M1867 WERNDL-HOLUB 11x58mm Single Shot MILITARY Rifle AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN Infantry Rifle w/ GASSER LOCK
Description: 1868 Antique AUSTRIAN M1867 WERNDL-HOLUB 11x58mm Single Shot MILITARY Rifle AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN Infantry Rifle w/ GASSER LOCK Here we present an antique Austrian Model 1867 Werndl-Holub Single Shot Military Rifle made circa 1869 in Steyr, Austria by Josef and Franz Werndl & Company with a production run between 1867 and 1888. Josef Werndl was a famous Austrian arms producer and inventor. His most famous rifle design was this M1867 Werndl-Holub. He also owned the Steyr-Mannlicher from 1855. The Model 1867 Werndl–Holub was a single-shot breechloading rifle adopted by the Austro-Hungarian army on July 28, 1867. It replaced the Wänzl breechloader conversion of the muzzle-loading Lorenz rifle. Josef Werndl and Karel Holub designed and patented their twisting breech rifle. Werndl later bought out all the rights but was involved in name only. ÖWG (Österreichische Waffenfabriksgesellschaft) took over production of the Werndl Rifle in 1869 and chambered it for the 11mm scharfe Patrone M.67 cartridge. In 1877, the military rechambered the 1877 Variant of the Werndl for the bottleneck 11mm scharfe Patrone M.77 cartridge. In 1867, the army ordered 611,000 of the new rifles. By November 1870, only 316,650 Werndl breechloaders had been produced and the army still needed an additional 302,810 rifles to fulfill the needs of the regular troops, without taking into account the demands of the Imperial-Royal Landwehr and the Royal Hungarian Honvéd. The overall condition is very good+. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is shiny bright with sharp and deep rifling. The stock is smooth and solid and showing use from normal handling. A great example of a solid Austrian military rifle from before the ultimate rise of the bolt action. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-1/4 inches. Caliber: 11x58mm Werndl Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
