About Us: I am a custom gunmaker specializing in re-creating pre-World War I sporting rifles, crafted with precision and respect for tradition. Starting with quality rifles such as the Ruger No.1, Mauser, Winchester Model 70, Ruger M77, CZ, or BRNO, I transform them into sleek, slender hunting rifles inspired by the elegance of 1910 designs. I also craft the elegant Faeton Underhammer muzzleloading rifles and Model 1911 .45 Super Longslide pistols. Call me or visit my site, which is listed on some of the photos, for more information regarding my line of fine bespoke firearms. Also check out my Custom Services listing under GUNSMITHING.
8X59R (.315 Krag) KIPPLAUF STALKING RIFLE
Description: PRICE REDUCED TO $1575 This beautiful, sleek, and slender rifle has an interesting story. It was German proofed in 1924. Originally chambered in 8.15X46R, it has since been given a new lease on life and re-chambered to .30-40 Krag. Expanding the neck to accept .315” bullets completes the conversion. The new cartridge is designated 8X59R. Gone is the stop-ring bullet and strange chamber/throat combination. Now the cartridge is loaded like any other cartridge which really simplifies life with this little Kipplauf. Although of fine design, materials, and finish, the rifle has no makers marks anywhere. The usual proof marks are under the barrel and on the right side of the receiver which indicates a 7.7mm bore and the BP proof that is typical of the 8.15X46R, but no makers name. The left side of the receiver wears the typical “DRGM” Deutsches Reichs Gebrauchs Muster which loosely translated means that the design is registered with the German Patent Office. By the way, the bore is excellent! Weighing a mere 5 lbs, 6 ounces, this little rifle is a real joy to carry afield. The 28.5-inch barrel provides a wonderfully long sight radius and extracts the most velocity from your handloads. The sights are a fine bead German silver front bead and solid standing rear with one flip up blade. The rifle features superb double set triggers, which can also be fired unset, and a cocking indicator on the tang. The walnut stock is nicely figured on both sides and the buttstock and forearm are solid with no cracks. The rifle bears some handling marks, but is in crisp, clean, and perfect mechanical condition. Included with this package is a double cavity NOE Bullet mold which throws 200-grain bullets - as depicted in the photo – and a set of NOE .315 bullet sizing dies. Lee loading dies which have been modified for this cartridge are included along with 40 fire-formed cases. Hawk Bullets produces a wonderful .316” - 200-grain soft copper jacket bullet that is the perfect bullet for the 8X59R when loaded to .30-40 Krag limits. Montana Bullet Works also provides 200-grain cast bullets of .315” diameter if you don’t have time to cast your own. Lighter cast bullets are also available, but 200 grains is about optimum for this carrtrdge. And, you can shoot standard .30-40 Krag ammunition in a pinch. Very versatile indeed!
