CGA Type 56 SKS 7.62x39mm Thread-in barrel Excellent Condition w/box, sling, stripper clip, cleaning kit
Description: The SKS is one of the most famous of Soviet/Russian designs. Designed by Sergei Gravrilovich Siminov, the SKS was essentially a scaled down version of Siminov’s semi-auto anti-tank rifle, the PTRS-41. The SKS was originally intended to replace both the Mosin-Nagant M91/30 as well as the SVT-40 rifles and was already at the prototype/field testing stage at the end of World War 2. Although no longer in production in its country of origin, the SKS was produced in large quantities by the Chinese, who began manufacture of the rifle in 1956. During the 1980’s, the Chines began importing SKS rifles to the U.S. This example was manufactured by CGA and was imported by GLNIC which stands for Guangdon Lingnan Ind. Corp. (of America), a company based in the U.S. but owned by the People’s Liberation Army of China. Rifles made for export after 1989 would be produced by the much more familiar Norinco. The rifle has the sought-after thread-in or screw in barrel as opposed to the pinned type barrel. As it was imported well before the Assault Weapons ban of 1994, the SKS rifle retains its folding spike bayonet. The 20” barrel, having been manufactured by the Chinese, is chrome lined to protect the bore from corrosive ammo, unlike the original Russian SKS rifles or their Yugoslavian counterparts. Although pre-owned, the rifle was never used, the action and rifle bore being far too clean. There were some small spots of rust here and there that have been cleaned up. The receiver cover has scratch on it which is inevitable with any SKS given the nature of the take down lever’s design. The wood furniture remains in superb shape. The rifle comes with a green sling, box, oil bottle, cleaning kit tube (inside the buttstock), and one stripper clip. The box is visibly in poor shape, though they were never of high quality construction in the first place. The manufacturer most likely assumed the buyer would ditch the box as soon as they took possession of the rifle, rather than storing it away. It cannot be stressed enough that when purchasing a firearm, it is critical to keep the original box. If it becomes necessary for the buyer to re-sell the firearm later on, the box in most cases can add to the overall value of the gun in question.
