Civil War 1860 Spencer Carbine Battlefield Pick Up
Description: Civil War 1860 Spencer serial # 54213, weighs 8 lbs. 4 oz., and has an overall length of 39”. Carbine has a 22” long round barrel fitted to a two-piece, oiled walnut stock / forend that is in very used condition with dings, dents, chips, cracks, gouges, and missing pieces scattered throughout. Believe it or not the stock has very faint cartouche mark visible. The bore is rough but not as bad as the outside of the guns metal condition. Barrel retains a heavy dark brown finish overall; also has the original folding rear sight and small brass blade front sight (looks like maybe a 1/2 of a coin). The original, steel, tubular loading magazine located in the buttstock is stuck in the stock and is missing the lever. Top flat on the receiver, forward of the hammer, is faded but might reveal the markings if cleaned properly (I wanted to leave this carbine in its original condition). A strongly stamped serial # 54213 on the top of frame behind the hammer. The heavy-style Spencer carbine sling bar and sling ring are tightly attached to the stock’s left side. Remaining metal surfaces of the carbine are again a heavy brown patina. Carbine exhibits crisp, strong mechanics and retains its single sling swivel under the stock near the toe. The story on this carbine is short. It was bought from a lady who received it from her brothers estate after he passed. The brother always told the sister that this carbine was a battlefield pick up but never informed the sister on the exact battlefield. So unfortunately the exact battlefields location was lost when the owner passed away. The one thing I will say is that after studying this carbine for a while it sure looks like it was laying around somewhere for an extended length of time. I wish I had a better story but unfortunately that's all I have. Cavalry regiments who were issued the M1860 Spencer carbine were: 1st Connecticut Cavalry, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Michigan Cavalry, 4th US Cavalry, 5th New York Cavalry, 1st New York Veteran Cavalry, 2nd Wisconsin Cavalry, 8th Indiana Cavalry, and the 1st New Jersey Cavalry. Antique and can be shipped directly to your doorsteps. Please feel free to ask questions. SOLD Antique: Yes |
