CIVIL WAR Antique Spencer Saddle Ring Carbine
Description: CIVIL WAR Antique Spencer Saddle Ring Carbine Modified Post-War for Service on the Frontier! Here we present an antique Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Carbine, made circa 1865 in Boston, Massachusetts. These lever-operated, breech-loading rifles were marvels of the time and had an impact on how war was to be fought in the future. Though their service life in the U.S. military was relatively short, the Spencer story includes Christopher Spencer, the inventor of the rifle, demonstrating and shooting with President Abraham Lincoln, who gave his full endorsement of the piece. Spencer’s most endearing quality was a 7 round magazine tube in the butt of the gun. This gave the shooter phenomenal firepower. This one would have been made during the Civil War. After the war, it was modified with a sleeved barrel for .50 caliber with 3-groove rifling. A magazine cutoff was also installed so that the carbine could be loaded from the top with individual cartridges until the command was given to unleash the 7 rounds in reserve in the magazine. The top is marked “SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLEE CO. BOSTON MASS./PAT’D MARCH 6 1860.” A single government inspector cartouche remains behind the tail of the frame. There is a little soldier graffiti on the stock. The overall condition is very good. The blue on the barrel has given way to a nice plum patina. The casehardened frame has turned an even gray. The markings are legible. The bore is sharp and bright. The stock is in great condition. The action on this carbine is excellent, strong and crisp. Here is a Spencer Carbine that saw it all: the end of the American Civil War to the Indian Wars of the Western Frontier! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .56-50 Spencer Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $3400 #6421 SOLD Antique: Yes |
