NEAT MOD of Antique SPENCER Carbine to Shotgun
Description: NEAT MOD of Antique SPENCER Carbine to Shotgun Made in Boston, Massachusetts Here we present an antique Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Saddle Ring Carbine, made circa 1865 in Boston, Massachusetts, that has been converted to a smoothbore shotgun sometime later. These lever-operated, breech-loading rifles were marvels of the time and had an impact on how war was to be fought in the future. Though their service life in the U.S. military was relatively short, the Spencer story includes Christopher Spencer, the inventor of the rifle, demonstrating and shooting with President Abraham Lincoln, who gave his full endorsement of the piece. This one would have been made during or around the Civil War. After the war, it was modified to be a 20-gauge shotgun. This includes a bored-out barrel, a long blade front sight, simple open sight on the back, and the addition of a sling swivel under the barrel. Near the rear sight, it is marked “P” and “G.D.S.” This is very likely the craftsman’s initials since all other markings have been removed. There is the faintest remnant of a government inspector cartouche on the stock, just behind the sling ring bar, that tells us that it was part of a military contract. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces have been refinished and are in good condition. The markings are clear. The stock is in great shape. The bore is smooth and in very good shape. The action on this shotgun is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: 20 Gauge Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1850 #7130 SOLD Antique: Yes |
