Rare Spencer Sporting Rifle in .56-46 Spencer Excellent Condition
Description:
Serial #314, .56-46 Spencer RF, 28" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome Spencer that retains 90-92% of the original blue finish on the matching numbered barrel, with some mild silvering at the muzzle, and a few very minor specks of freckling scattered throughout. The frame has a mottled gray and plum-brown patina with areas of original color case-hardening still visible on the hammer, lever, sides of the breechblock, and protected areas. The springs on the rear barrel sight and tang sight still have brilliant fire bluing remaining. The walnut forend and buttstock have numerous minor handling marks and surface blemishes scattered about the old varnish finish, and a fully functional original magazine tube is present in the buttstock. Only about 1,800 Spencer Sporting Rifles were ever made, and they are rarely encountered today. This example is in fine-near excellent condition, and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
