SPENCER MODEL 1860 CIVIL WAR CARBINE
Description: Description: This Spencer Model 1860 Civil War Carbine is a post Civil War alteration in .50 Caliber rim fire with 22” barrel bearing serial number 20336. The model 1860 Civil War model was made between 1863-1865 (the 1865 model had a 20” barrel). After use in the Civil War, in 1867, the government had 11,000 of these carbines restocked and refinished at the factory to government specifications. They were altered by the Springfield Armory between 1867-1874. This .50 caliber rim fire carbine is what was termed as a .56-52/.56-50 caliber. It is three grooved rifling. Condition: The metal is good for the age of the gun. The wood is walnut with a dark finish and has some small hair-line cracks, dents, and dings, but solid and nothing major. The bore is pretty good for its age. The gun works well mechanically. Overall, this is a good Spencer 1860 Civil War Carbine with Stabler cut off device used in the American Civil War and probably Indian Wars. Standard Markings on top of the receiver: Spencer Repeating Rifle Company/Pat March, 1860 Oct./5/1852. Metal markings are faint but readable and distinguishable after factory refinish. The rear sight is missing (these can be purchased at S&S Firearms). The front sling swivel was added by Springfield Armory. (See Flayderman page 633). MORE PICS. SHIPS INSURED DIRECTLY TO BUYER FOR $50. NO FFL.
