Springfield Armory M1A 7.62 NATO/.308 Win New Old Stock Unfired
Description: The Springfield M1A is the classic semi-auto only version of the famed M14 rifle used by the U.S. military before the introduction of the M16. The M1A was considered one of the big three along with the HK91 (semi-auto G3) and semi-auto variants of the FAL. The three were popular and in widespread use long before the AR10 rifle came into common use. The original M14 was built as a replacement for the M1 Garand and chambered for the new 7.62 NATO round intended to allow the rifle to be more controllable in full-auto fire than the .30-06-chambered T20E2 prototype built during World War 2. This was based on an M1 Garand modified to use BAR Model 1918 20-round magazines. In the end, the M14 was still had poor controllability in full-auto fire and the M14 was replaced by the M16 beginning in 1968. However, Springfield Armory saw the potential for a being a popular civilian legal hunting rifle and they began production of the M1A in 1974. It has been a popular rifle ever since, even with the recent surge AR10 sales. This particular M1A was purchased at one time but stayed in its box and has never been fired since leaving the factory. The bore still has a few flakes of test fire powder in it. The inside of the action still retains the preservative oils as well. The serial number is 370,391 so it’s a relatively recent production rifle. The box markings indicate this is the standard M1A model. MSRP for this model is $1788.00 according to the Springfield . The Standard model features a 22” carbon steel barrel with a 1-in-11” right-hand twist with six grooves. The front sight is based on the National Match 0.062” blade used in the original National Match M1 Garand rifles used in the ‘60s. The rifle comes with a 10-round magazine. As mentioned, this rifle is new old stock and is unfired, so of course it comes with the original box, manual, and plastic wrapping. Finally, a copy of the Department of the Army Technical Manual TM 9-1005-223-12 for the M14 rifle is included as well. A note on the pictures. The flash hider at the end of the barrel acts as a stand-off device preventing the camera from being able to get a picture of quality I usually like to put into these entries. I apologize for the inconvenience. SOLD Manufacturer: Springfield Armory Inc.
